Why (or how) do you ride in winter?
I just love riding my bike. It’s the most simple practical and; reliable mode of transportation in the city. I like to keep active year round and riding into the winter is part of that. I ride until I feel uncomfortable on the streets from snow and/or ice.

What makes it more challenging that summer riding?
Snow and ice and of course the cold. Wind factor is a bit of a drag. Your lock can freeze.

What are your tips for new winter cyclists?
Serious mittens or gloves. Dress warm, seal up the air drafts! Neck warmer you can pull up over your face. If you can store your bike inside when not in use, it's helpful. I don’t have the luxury, so switching to a combo lock usually solves the U lock/key freeze.

What do you wear while winter riding?
Down waist jacket under a wind-breaking raincoat, leggings over pants (or lined pants) thick mittens, neck warmer/scarf to pull up to cover your nose and mouth when necessary. And my Yakkay helmet.

What do you do for a living?
Filmmaker, farmers’ market manager/park animator - community volunteer, archival photographic scanning, mother.

What's your fave winter food and restaurant? Tell us about your favourite dish there?
Union on Ossington. Fav dish: Lovell Springs Trout.

Tell us a bit about the route you ride to the restaurant from home or work or school?
It’s not far from where I live, can either go through Trinity Bellwoods Park to Ossingtion, or west along Queen West.
