Why do you commute by bike?
Originally to see if I could. Then to get fit. But eventually it just became fun.
What's the best part of your commute?
Watching the cities wake up. I leave at 5 am and arrive at 7:30. Toronto is dead at that time. No one on the streets. But by the time I hit Mimico the dog walkers and joggers are out. When I hit Mississauga people are starting their commute. I feel like part of everyone's day.
What's the worst part of your commute?
Getting home so late in the evening and not having enough time with my son before bed. It takes me 2.5 hours by bike to commute to work versus 45 minutes to an hour by car. So biking is longer. This part may kill my commute.
What's the most surprising part of your commute?
My commute is mostly along the lakeshore and I'm always amazed at how much wildlife this city supports. I've seen, mink, beaver, egrets and even raccoons.
What infrastructure change would make your commute better?
TORONTO! ugh. Mimico and Port Credit get it. Toronto's bike paths don't connect, there is no signage. The only sign you see about the path is a sign you see when you are already on it.
